Work Model
Hybrid with Regional Requirements: Candidates must be in the USA New York/New Jersey Metro to be considered for this role. The role will be hybrid once fully onboarded. You’ll be based in our Pearl River, NY headquarters during in-office days and will also travel to project and construction sites as needed. This role is Full-Time with Standard Hours 8:00AM - 5:00PM, Monday – Friday.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Structured Cabling Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will plan, design, and specify structured cabling systems for commercial and industrial buildings, and will provide guidance throughout the installation. This role requires a deep understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, cabling standards, and industry best practices.
Compensation Range
The projected salary range for this role is $100k annual, dependent on relevant experience, skills, and certifications.
How You’ll Contribute to the Team: Responsibilities

Design structured cabling systems, including fiber optics, copper cabling, and associated pathways.

Provide technical design of systems for building projects including security, voice, data, and other low voltage systems. Responsibilities include preparation of design drawings, specifications, and reports, conducting site visits, reviewing technical documents, and communicating with client teams.

Complete project assignments with minimal supervision and give clear direction to support staff to complete a project.

Produce detailed design/construction drawings including plans, sections, and details, to communicate design intent and facilitate construction.

Participate in project planning and design meetings, contributing creative and practical design solutions.

Collaborate with project teams to develop buildable design strategies.

Develop and modify architectural Revit models for various families, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established design standards.

Develop and review technical drawings, floor plans, and cable routing layouts.

Ensure designs comply with industry standards such as TIA/EIA, BICSI, and NEC codes.

Coordinate with other design professionals, including engineers and consultants, to ensure integrated and comprehensive design solutions.

Conduct design reviews and quality control checks to ensure compliance with design standards, building codes, and client requirements.

Utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to optimize design efficiency and facilitate project coordination.

Stay current with industry trends and advancements in architectural design and Revit technology.

Treat the client, owner, and other project stakeholders and team members in a professional manner when representing USIS whether on videoconference calls, in meetings, or in correspondence such as emails.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and installation teams to ensure project success.

Conduct site surveys and assessments to determine cabling needs and requirements.

Prepare detailed documentation, including bill of materials (BOM) and installation guidelines.

Provide wireless design utilizing predictive study software.

Assist in troubleshooting and resolving cabling-related issues.

Keep up to date with emerging trends and technologies in structured cabling.
What You’ll Need to be Successful: Competencies + Skills

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Visio, or similar design software.

Aptitude to learn and work with 3D programs such as REVIT.

Aptitude to learn and work with Ekahau software for predictive studies and site measurements.

Strong understanding of industry standards and best practices.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet all deadlines.
What We Require for the Role: Qualifications + Certifications

Minimum 3-5 years of experience in structured cabling design and implementation.

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field is preferred.

BICSI RCDD certification or equivalent is highly desirable.

A valid driver’s license required.

Ability to pass drug and background screenings required.
