Adding background music to Class A amenities

Property owner & developer, Tishman Speyer, knew that a high-quality background music system would round out Two Bala Plaza’s other Class A amenities by enhancing the tenant & visitor experience and further unlocking the value of non-traditional spaces such as corridors and outdoor areas. USIS AudioVisual provided system design/build services for the distributed audio system that broadcasts background music through the Main Lobby, Elevator Lobby, East Corridor, West Corridor, North Corridor, Skylight Atrium, and the Outdoor Courtyard referred to as The Commons.

The project, a retrofit of one of Tishman Speyer’s Class A buildings in the four-building Bala Plaza complex, required installation of (32) in-ceiling recessed speakers and (12) in-ceiling recessed subwoofers in the Lobbies & Corridors, (6) surface-mounted speakers in the Skylight Atrium, and (6) surface-mounted outdoor-rated speakers for The Commons.

Background music can be sourced from a rack-mounted media player as well as a stereo input jack for portable playback devices like an iPod.
